Breaking into the top 10 for the first time this year, Steirereck chef-owner Heinz Reitbauer’s cooking is finally getting the attention it merits. Reitbauer’s dishes pillage his family’s Styrian roots for inspiration and unearth rare ingredients.
Unique in the world: a jewel of Art nouveau architecture, in one of the most beautiful parts of Vienna, close to the famous statue of Johann Strauss, in a relaxed, chic setting. The dishes and their origins are explained in detail on small cards, which make a lovely memento of a unique culinary experience.
Drawing on produce from local farmers as well as from his own farm, Grand Chef Heinz Reitbauer creates the very finest of contemporary Austrian cuisine. Also in the building, the Meierei Milk Bar proposes 120 cheese varieties from 13 different countries as well as traditional Austrian pastries.
Growing up working at his parents’ restaurant, Steirereck, may have given Austrian chef Heinz Reitbauer an early advantage. But since joining them as a partner in 1996 he’s established himself as a culinary force in his own right. Chef Heinz Reitbauer has earned his reputation for innovative local food creations by rediscovering rare local vegetables like the Beta Sweet Carrot.
