Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam is a unique 5-star hotel created by combining six monumental 17th century canal palaces. Inspired by timeless Dutch history, the hotel brings the legendary True Waldorf service to a storied and unforgettable destination.
Situated on the Herengracht (Gentlemenâs canal), the hotel enjoys a prime location on UNESCO World Heritage site, close to all major Amsterdam attractions and only 25 minutes from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS). The Gentlemen’s Canal is 15 minutes’ walk from Museumsplein (where the refurbished Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum reopened last year, and the remodelled Stedelijk was unveiled the year before, re-establishing Amsterdam’s reputation as a magnet for art lovers).
There are 93 rooms, each with distinctive, historic quirks; a good balance of the very grand and the more cosy, slipped under the eaves. Our room had pale walls, white painted rafters and creamy hues with accents of peacock blue and dark wood floors. Another nod to the location came in the blue-and-white Delft tiles in the bathroom. If you were casting a very critical eye you might say the rooms could benefit from a bit more historic character. Lights, Wi-Fi and TV are straightforward and there was a Nespresso machine and a kettle, plus Salvatore Ferragamo toiletries in bathrooms.
The hotel offers seven meeting and event rooms, including the Maurer room with original Rococo decor and 18th century wall paintings ideal for private dinings. The unique Hooft room (155 m2) is perfect for conferences, celebrations and weddings for up to 150 persons. Guests can savour exquisite local and international cuisine in the gastronomic restaurant Librijeâs Zusje Amsterdam, in collaboration with of 3-Michelin star restaurant De Librije. Revitalize with an afternoon cup of coffee and a tasty sandwich or pastry in the stylish and famed Peacock Alley, or enjoy bespoke cocktails in the signature Vault Bar. Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam features the luxury Guerlain spa, with direct access to the garden and three treatment rooms where guests can enjoy a wide choice of revitalizing facials and massages.
