Experience Kenya's finest game viewing while enjoying five-star hospitality in the bush, privately visiting a Maasai village and elephant orphanage and learning about local cuisine during a cooking demonstration.
Arrive in Nairobi, and transfer to your luxurious boutique hotel within the vibrant suburb of Karen.
Begin the day at the Karen Blixen Museum in her former home. View many of the author’s original belongings and the bucolic setting where Out of Africa was filmed. Continue to the Giraffe Center sanctuary, where you may hand-feed the gentle, endangered Rothschild giraffes. Stop for an Artisan Visit at Kazuri, a jewelry workshop created by and for women, with the goal of enhancing the lives of disadvantaged Kenyan families. Later, at the Daphne Sheldrick Animal Orphanage, learn how orphaned wild animals, such as elephants and rhinos, are reintroduced to the wild. This evening, attend a welcome dinner.
Drive from Nairobi to Amboseli National Park and your tented safari camp beneath Mount Kilimanjaro. The elephant population is prolific here. Amid acacia woodland, scrub brush, freshwater swamps and open plains, watch for buffalo, hippos and waterfowl.
Embark on an exciting morning and afternoon game drives, keeping watch for lions and cheetahs as they prepare to hunt. Then, from atop the perch of prehistoric Observation Hill, witness the grasslands and mighty mountain shift colors at sunset.
Board a flight to the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, a harbor for endangered black rhinos, big cats and elephants. Drive to your tented camp in the scenic Northern Frontier District, set within a private wildlife conservancy and rhino sanctuary. Take to the bush this afternoon and tomorrow, in search of northern species, such as the reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich and the long-necked gerenuk, which stands on its hind legs to feed. Consider taking a walking safari, optional horseback ride or camel ride (additional cost) — amenities not possible in game reserves or national parks.
Fly to the Masai Mara Game Reserve and your award-winning luxury camp. Its 14 elegant tents feature four-poster beds and verandas overlooking a private stretch of the Mara River, where hippos wallow. After a late-afternoon game drive, return to camp for dinner.
Spend the next two days exploring the vast plains. Situated along the Tanzanian border, the Masai Mara is the site of the annual wildebeest migration. Rich in game, the rolling grasslands host the country’s largest lion population. Search, too, for zebras, spotted hyenas and black-backed jackals. You may privately visit a Maasai village to learn about local customs and daily life. One special sunset on the Mara is celebrated with a Scenic Sundowner. On your final evening, join fellow guests for a farewell dinner.
Fly to Nairobi, where a dayroom awaits until your flight.
