King Alfonso XIII opened Madrid’s Hotel Ritz at the turn of the 20th century as a rival to the Ritz hotels in London and Paris. With its central location between Retiro Park and Teatro de la Zarzuela, and its private garden facing the Prado Museum, the property instantly became the see-and-be-seen hub of the city, a position it maintains today. Following the most ambitious and extensive renovation to take place in its 110-year history, the famous Ritz Madrid reopened as Mandarin Oriental Ritz in 2021.
The Mandarin Oriental Ritz Hotel is situated in the heart of Madrid near Retiro Park and overlooking the Stock Exchange Building and The Prado and Thyssen museums. Within walking distance of some of the capital's finest stores, the Botanical Gardens, the Reina Sofia Modern Art Museum and the Zarzuela Theatre. Barajas Airport is 5 km away (25 minutes drive).
The hotel offers 153 luxuriously appointed rooms, including 53 suites. Combining luxurious comfort with contemporary amenities, rooms and suites exude a classic sense of style. Mandarin rooms overlooking Ritz Garden or Lealtad Square with its beautiful strawberry tree, the oldest in Madrid, are flooded with light, offering a real sense of calm and space. Rooms include a spacious seating area, and some come with a four-poster canopy bed. The white Dolomite stone paneling emphasizes the light in the bathrooms, which come with a freestanding bathtub and Emperador marble floors, and twin washbasins.
There are five restaurants and bars, which have been designed, developed, and implemented by a celebrated Spanish chef, Quique Dacosta. The historic Palm Court with its signature glass dome, reinstated after more than 80 years, has a selection of artworks on display that have been inspired by the strong connection between the hotel and this majestic city. The hotel’s new leisure and wellness facilities include a heated indoor swimming pool, a vitality pool, experience showers, a steam room, and a contemporary fitness center.
The traditional Afternoon Tea service, accompanied by harp or piano, is held in the hotel’s elegant lobby, a great place for people-watching.
