There is a distinct genre of travel that belongs entirely to the romanticist, a belief that the journey itself should be an act of theater, a deliberate pause from the mundane velocity of modern life. For decades, the vintage carriages of the rails have offered this escape. Yet, even within the refined echelons of luxury train travel, an itinerary can occasionally feel like a beautifully preserved museum piece: admired, but static.

True luxury, however, demands a living narrative. It requires a space where history doesn’t just sit on display, but actively performs for you.

In an extraordinary convergence of heritage hospitality and avant-garde storytelling, The British Pullman, A Belmond Train, has unveiled Celia – a brand-new private dining and events carriage launching this early summer 2026. This marks the inaugural collaboration between Belmond and the visionary filmmaker Baz Luhrmann, who, alongside Oscar-winning designer Catherine Martin, has injected a dose of pure, dreamlike theatricality into an original 1932 Pullman carriage.

To step inside Celia is to step entirely inside a midsummer night’s dream. The design centers around a fictional 1930s West End leading lady, gifted her own carriage after a legendary performance as Titania, Queen of the Fairies. The result is a traveling salon that transcends standard luxury, accommodating just twelve guests in absolute exclusivity. It is, as the curators note, the closest one can get to chartering an entire private train.

“Guests are invited to become part of the story,” notes Luhrmann. “Celia, at its heart, is a magical mystery tour—a traveling dining experience filled with food, music, wine, laughter, and performance.”

The craftsmanship onboard is fiercely bespoke. Tri-color marquetry panels line the walls with pastoral scenes, while delicate pansies—Titania’s symbolic flower—are woven into the oak-wood floors. The color palette is a rich, intoxicating blend of emerald greens, deep purples, and vibrant yellows, all beneath a custom fabric ceiling precisely engineered to optimize live acoustics for onboard performances. Even the atmosphere is curated, featuring a signature room scent hand-selected by the designers.

The onboard experience functions as a beautifully fluid, in-motion salon. Every meal becomes an intimate gala, served on custom creations by Duchess China alongside sharp David Mellor cutlery and structural Tom Dixon glassware. At the private cocktail bar, guests can enjoy an exclusive menu designed by world-renowned mixologist Monica Berg, with the option for members to fully customize and stock the bar with their preferred vintages. Furthermore, the entire journey remains blissfully unprescribed; from private DJ sets to tailored excursions through Oxford, Bath, or the historic gates of Blenheim Palace, the experience bends entirely to the whim of the host.

As guests indulge in a reimagined three-course English feast—featuring impeccable beef wellington and delicate parfaits—the world outside the window becomes merely a backdrop to the masterpiece inside. Celia proves that the finest journeys are not about reaching a destination, but about creating an entirely new world along the way.
